리코더와 바로크 음악에 조예가 깊은 안정섭 목사의 연주와 묵상
바로크 음악은 정해진 형식 안에서 선율이 서로 대화합니다. 같은 본문을 천천히 여러 번 읽는 일과 닮았습니다.
리코더와 바로크 음악 이야기
오늘은 리코더를 초등학교 악기로 기억하는 분이 많지만, 바로크 시대(약 1600~1750년)의 리코더는 궁정과 교회에서 쓰이던 전문 연주 악기였습니다. 18세기 중반 가로로 부는 플루트가 자리를 잡기 전까지, 악보에 '플루트'라고 적으면 보통 리코더를 가리켰습니다.

지금도 바로크 음악에 리코더를 쓰는 까닭
리코더는 현대 플루트보다 소리가 작고 따뜻해서, 사람의 목소리에 가깝다는 말을 듣습니다. 작곡가가 들었던 소리에 가깝게 연주하려는 역사주의 연주(Historically Informed Performance)에서 지금도 리코더를 씁니다.
교회음악 속의 리코더
바흐는 칸타타에서 목자와 양, 죽음 앞의 위로를 그릴 때 리코더를 썼습니다. 「그는 자기 양의 이름을 불러」(BWV 175)에서는 세 대의 리코더가 선한 목자(요한복음 10장)를 노래하고, 「하나님의 때가 가장 좋은 때」(BWV 106)에서는 두 대의 리코더가 서로 주고받으며 장례의 슬픔과 위로를 그립니다.

리코더는 안정섭 목사가 젊은 날 오래 붙들었던 악기입니다.
“수십 년간 손도 안 대 보다가, 작년에 제자가 목관 리코더를 구해 달라고 해서 그라나딜라로 된 리코더를 사서 보낸 적이 있었습니다. 그때 저도 하나 사서 몇 곡 녹음해 보았습니다. 그런데 혼자서 녹음하고 합치는 일이 보통 일은 아니더라고요. 수도 없이 틀려서 다시 하고요. 그러다가 그냥 틀린 채로 올렸습니다.”

The recorder and Baroque music
Many people remember the recorder as a school instrument, but in the Baroque era (about 1600–1750) it was a professional instrument heard at court and in church. Until the transverse flute took hold in the mid-eighteenth century, "flute" on a score usually meant the recorder.

Why it is still used for Baroque music
Softer and warmer than the modern flute, the recorder is often said to be close to the human voice. Historically informed performance still uses it to come near the sound the composers heard.
The recorder in church music
In his cantatas Bach used recorders to paint shepherds and sheep, and comfort in the face of death. In "Er rufet seinen Schafen mit Namen" (BWV 175), three recorders sing of the Good Shepherd (John 10); in "Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit" (BWV 106), two recorders echo each other in grief and consolation.

대표 연주
Alexander Heinrich Meister 테너 리코더를 중고로 구하여 시험 삼아 녹음해 보았습니다.
베이스 리코더가 없어서 C장조로 올린 뒤 소프라노 1, 2, 알토, 테너로 4부를 연주했습니다. 나홀로 4부 연주는 첫 시도입니다.
“은퇴하면 찬송가를 4부로 한 곡씩 녹음해 볼까 하는 생각도 해 봅니다.”
